I have super exciting nerdy Asian news!!! We are going to see sumo wrestling in Tokyo this Saturday!!! It may be my last time in Tokyo for a very long time and I can think of nothing better than to go see sumo. Except see sumo, visit a cat café, and go get sushi breakfast at the Tsujiki fish market. We plan on doing all of the above.
I feel incredibly lucky to get tickets because we had planned our little weekend excursion to mainland, even used our points for a flight and then on the first day tickets went on sale, attempted to buy tickets. Sold out. We thought the website might be in error and went to our local Family Mart where they also sell tickets. Sold out. Turns out they presell most of the tickets, especially in Tokyo which is the traditional arena that locals love to patronize. By all means we had given up when I chanced to call the military travel service and they had tickets!!! Sold!!
I’m not sure exactly what to expect other than large Asian men (which are actually small compared to some Americans) and a lot of grunting. I will report back soon! Asia continues to teach me new things even as we are preparing to leave in a few months.
I remember a year or so ago when I had my first passion fruit from a farmer’s market. It was this crazy aha moment when I realized what the incredibly ugly (on the outside) fruit was inside. Since then, passion fruit is one of my favorite flavors and I look forward to this time of year when they are cheap and fresh here. This recipe is incredibly simple. The lime does give it a necessary tang so be sure not to skip it. If you don’t have fresh passion fruit in your local market check out the frozen aisle as many American grocery stores will stock it there. Enjoy!!
